Self-Starting Genealogy

Years ago, I started out interested and wondering about my family history. The topic of family history has been taboo within recent years people laying claim to family backgrounds yet a devoted genealogist overlooks. Most people felt that genealogy was something to look for popularity related to famous people. To be honest that was not me and not my goal. For me it was about learning history and fact-finding it help me through many class in school. When I started 40 some years ago, I was in my early teens. I was up in my grandfather’s attic being curious. Through my snooping I found a large genealogical tree a movie screen size. Then I found a small chart on another family branch. Has a typical teenager the questions arose about my family’s past talking with Cousins aunts and uncles. So, the research started talking to family writing things down making my own hand written three. Interviewing help kickstart the path to my genealogy. This obsession A family research got me hooked it to me was a fun outlet especially on bad weathered days.

A lot of the genealogical research is out there. Genealogy was popular back in the early 1900s. People started joining the sons of the American Revolution and the daughters of the American Revolution. The requirement was a genealogical research. Do you have to be a professional to start one absolutely NOT! Do you have to be a Certified Genealogist to do your own research, absolutely NOT! Do you have to pay a professional Genealogist to help.  to be honest they make pretty good money! To be honest you do have to be a Certified Genealogist if you are collecting money to research and publish articles on it. By telling your own story you do not. The deposit for a genealogist to start your research is a month’s salary for most people. It only takes commitment and the right budget. Do you like to research, do you love history if yes is the answer you have a good start. Don’t overdo it there are ways to not send money on researching our own family tree. Yes, there are thing you pay for just not everything. When I started it was quite unknown where I can find my family and the things they have done. Money for me was tight so I had to do it without going spend crazy. When I started Internet wasn’t as vast and talking to my family was the main link to information. Visiting a local state archive was something that needed time. That is your rainy-day trip or a day you have time. Stacks of paperwork old photos in a box. My family was never famous nor very popular so not much to go on. The motivation for my family research was they were more important to me. So, if you want to do your family research on a shoe string budget gather what you have and let’s get started.
